OUR MISSION
The Eritrean Evangelical Churches Association of Canada (EECAC) exists to unite and strengthen Eritrean evangelical churches across Canada—from coast to coast. With a robust network of 19 member churches, our mission is to support the growth, health, and spiritual vitality of each congregation while fostering collaboration, mutual encouragement, and shared ministry among individual church communities we serve. We recognize that each church has its unique strengths and challenges, and through our collective efforts, we aim to share best practices, resources, and insights that will benefit all. Through partnership, prayer, and practical resources, we strive to build a stronger, more connected body of Christ that not only reflects our shared faith and cultural heritage but also serves as a beacon of hope and light in our neighbourhoods. By engaging in community outreach, organizing joint events, and facilitating workshops, we empower our congregations to play a transformative role in the lives of individuals and families, thereby enriching the spiritual landscape of Canada as a whole.
OUR History
The Eritrean Evangelical Churches Association of Canada (EECAC) traces its beginnings to a spirit of unity and a shared vision among Eritrean evangelical believers in Western Canada. The journey formally began on February 6, 2013, in Edmonton, Alberta, where representatives from several churches gathered to explore the formation of a fellowship that would bring Eritrean congregations together for mutual support and networking.
Present at this foundational meeting were leaders from Philadelphia Church in Winnipeg, Christian Fellowship Church in Calgary, (then known as RESE MEAZEN), Peniel Church Calgary, and Bethel Church Edmonton. During the gathering, a draft of the initial by-law was created, and three temporary leaders—Pastors Menges, Habtemichael, and Samson Mussie—were elected to help guide the formation of the fellowship. The group set a goal to invite other churches from the region to review the proposed by-law and to return in the fall to elect permanent leadership. This vision culminated in an official launch of the Western Canada Church Fellowship on October 25–26, 2013.
As the momentum grew, so did the vision. In May 2015, during another meeting in Edmonton, the leaders recognized the need to reach beyond the western provinces. It was agreed upon to expand the fellowship by inviting Eritrean evangelical churches from Eastern Canada to form a national network. Though the process faced logistical and communication challenges, the first nationwide gathering was successfully held in Winnipeg from November 20–22, 2015. This milestone marked the beginning of a broader vision for collaboration among Eritrean churches across Canada.
Building on this foundation, the next key meeting took place in Kitchener, Ontario, on May 6–7, 2016, where church representatives came together in unity and formally agreed to establish a Canada-wide fellowship. During this gathering, Nahom Robel and Samson Mussie were elected to serve as leaders, continuing the work of building bridges between churches and providing national direction.
In October 2016, leaders gathered in Ottawa with the aim of finalizing the organizational by-law, and by May 2017 in Calgary, the draft by-law was officially ratified. This moment marked the formal establishment of what would become known as the Eritrean Evangelical Churches Association of Canada (EECAC)—a unified body representing Eritrean evangelical churches from coast to coast.
Since then, EECAC has continued to grow in both scope and purpose, now representing 19 member churches across Canada. The Association remains dedicated to strengthening individual congregations, encouraging spiritual vitality, and promoting unity through shared ministry, training, and mutual support.
Our story is one of perseverance, prayer, and partnership—and we believe that God, who began this good work, will continue to lead us as we serve our communities together.
